High School Students Learn Dangers of DUII

The Lake Oswego Fire Department, in partnership with Oregon Impact, gave Lakeridge High School students a lot to think about when they staged a simulated drunk-driving crash at the school to give a glimpse into the consequences of drunk driving or DUII. In a realistic “crash scene,” students dressed with Halloween makeup were “rescued” from crushed, tangled vehicles–the consequence of a night of drinking and partying.

“We make it realistic to impress on young drivers and students who will be driving soon that driving drunk is very dangerous for them and everyone else on the road,” said Deputy Fire Marshal Gert Zoutendijk.

Empty beer cans were strewn around to hint at the irresponsible, illegal partying that contributed to the crash. Students also heard a broadcast of a running “radio dispatch” on the local station, while firefighters cut the vehicles apart to free the victims.
