DUII Drunk Driving Memorial Day Weekend

Oregon State Police and other local law enforcement agencies are increasing coverage to patrol for unbuckled and impaired drivers this Memorial Day weekend. The increased presence will begin Friday and continue through late Monday as part of the nationwide Click It or Ticket campaign from May 23 to June 5.

Last year in Oregon, six people died in crashes on Memorial Day weekend. According to the Oregon State Police, more than half of fatal crashes on Memorial Day involved alcohol. This year, police and law enforcement will focus on arresting drunk drivers, lowering injuries and deaths in related crashes and educating about the dangers of impaired driving. The goal is to send a message that drunk driving won’t be tolerated.

Here are some basic tips for safe driving this weekend:

• Don’t drive in a hurry or while fatigued
• Pay attention
• Check road conditions
• Follow work zone speed limits
• Check mirrors and blind spots
• Don’t tailgate
• Use seatbelts and child safety seats
• Don’t drink and drive
• Move over for emergency vehicles or tow trucks

To report aggressive, dangerous or intoxicated drivers to Oregon State Police, call 1(800)-24DRUNK or 911. If it is too late and you’ve already been pulled over for drunk driving, contact a DUII lawyer immediately. Depending on the situation, punishment and sentencing can vary. A qualified DUII attorney can explain any details and advise you on the legal remedies available.
