I recently blogged about how new year’s early morning is the most dangerous day of the year to drive due to th high number of drunk drivers. Bottom line is that drunk driving is one of the leading causes of car accident caused personal injuries. So every year at this time communities try to get the word out about the dangers of drunk driving. For example, this year the Oregonian did a front page article about how a person can be below a .08 blood alcohol level and still be convicted of driving under the influence of alcohol so long as it can be proven then that person was noticeably effected by the alcohol. There have even been TV spots talking about how “buzzed driving is drunk driving.”
Yet despite this push, the Oregon State Patrol says more people were arrested for driving under the influence this New Year’s Eve than last year. They credit increased patrols throughout the state by local and state law enforcement. KTVZ-TV (http://is.gd/IudWke ) reports preliminary numbers of DUI arrests between Saturday and Sunday of 47 around the state, including 25 after midnight. Last year, troopers reported 41 DUI arrests during the same period. Troopers arrested 34 DUII drivers two years ago.
If you or a loved one have been a victim of a drunk driver and have suffered personal injuries, give me a call. I can help and the consultation is free. Remember, if you don’t recover anything, neither do I.
